SCOOTER THUMB

Posted Wed 29 May 2019

Patients book a consultation for all sorts of reasons. Whether it's avocado hand or scooter thumb, Mr Gateley will put you right. One recent patient tells his tale:

Having managed to drive my scooter into the ground and break my thumb, I found my way to David Gateley and DRG Plastic Surgery.

From initial contact with the indefatigable Madelaine to the actual procedure, the clinic inspires confidence. A clear initial consultation with Mr Gateley, both of the procedure, potential outcomes, mechanics and post op care was followed by efficient scheduling and delivery. It was important to me that I did not have a general anaesthetic and we discussed the merits of a local anaesthetic, versus the general. The final decision was to be made on the day, depending on progress.

I’m happy to say we were able to have the local option. This was not only painless, it also enabled me to observe Mr Gateley’s very efficient team at work during surgery. After thorough prep work by the hospital team I was admitted to theatre. After meticulous preparation and checking, the anaesthetic was injected. Some minutes later, and the actual pinning of the joint took all of ten minutes. I had come in early, was lucky enough to be first on the list and was on my way home just after lunch! The follow up care is thorough and the follow through to physiotherapy, smooth and hassle free.

If you are unfortunate (or stupid!) enough to ride your bike into the ground, I can highly recommend the first class care you will receive from Mr Gateley and team.

Again, our thanks to this patient for taking the time to tell his story.
