Recent correspondence from the Care Quality Commission underlines the importance of independent cosmetic surgery providers providing the following pillars of care.
Clinicians must have a system in place to assess a patient’s psychological state,to identify those who are vulnerable and may benefit from further psychological input by a suitably trained professional. It is not acceptable to expect patients to self-declare psychological morbidity, for example on a questionnaire.
DRG Plastic Surgery Ltd have two Consultants and a Clinical Nurse, who have all had training in the assessment and psychological support required for patients, and through the BAAPS website we are able to refer patients on to suitably qualified Psychologists, should patients be deemed to be vulnerable on initial consultation.
Management of the deteriorating patients. Patients must have emergency equipment, medicines and staff skill mix needed to ensure patient safety. DRG Plastic Surgery Ltd only use Surgeons who have life support skills working in hospitals with appropriately trained nurses and doctors.
Standards of Consent
DRG Plastic Surgery Ltd, as well as consenting via the hospital process also use our own consent forms to ensure that patients fully understand the procedure they are undertaking.
Lack of appropriate cooling off period
DRG Plastic Surgery Ltd maintain a two week cooling off period between initial consultation and any surgical intervention required.
Poor risk management processes
DRG Plastic Surgery Ltd works within a network of hospitals that have ongoing risk management processes in place to which we are required to adhere.
Lack of follow up and monitoring
All of our patients are followed up regularly over 3 post-operative visits, identifying the patient’s outcome and satisfaction. Patients undergoing breast implant surgery are offered a yearly follow up.
